Two Stripes

abused horse

In March 2011, Bob Merrill adopted an Arabian gelding named Two Stripes from PER. The horse was small in stature, but had a huge heart like most of the arabian breed. We knew it was a good match but never thought just how well the two of them would click. After months of conditioning, on Oct. 28th and 29th, Bob rode Two Stripes on the Blackwater Boogie Endurance Ride; a 25 miler judged on the stamina and condition of the horse at certain check points. Remarkably, Bob and Two Stripes placed second with a close margin of only two seconds difference with the winner. It is said by the experts that a successful endurance horse must have a true willingness and hardiness to continue down the trail. Bob never realized how well he was doing; he just said that he let Two Stripes pick his own pace. He said he just wanted to have fun that day, but he never would have dreamed that they would come in second place! This just goes to show that even rescue horses are pretty special!

Ride for Rescue

The 2012 PER Ride For Rescue will be held on March 31st. The flyer for the event is here. Please forward to all your friends! Michelle, our ride coordinator does a wonderful job in setting up the obstacles for the trail and each year there are always new surprises! Michelle’s mother, Jenny who cooked last year will also be preparing the food for this ride, so we know lunch will be delicious!

For this ride we are also seeking sponsors for each obstacle. Information on sponsorship is available here. If anyone would like to sponsor an obstacle as a business or individual, please contact Trish Manring by calling her at the number on the attachment.

We are also asking for volunteers to help out at the ride. If you cannot ride, but would like to get involved, contact Michelle; her number is on the ride flyer.

In addition, we are now selling raffle tickets for the 32” Samsung TV. The drawing will be held after the ride on March 31st. If you would like to purchase tickets for a chance to win, contact Diane at 850-587-3565.
