THE PROCESS What happens when PER obtains custody of an equine? Whether an equine is surrendered or seized, we follow the same procedure. The first thing we do is take the equine to a licensed veterinarian for a complete checkup. The veterinarian makes their recommendations based on his findings. That gives us our plan for rehabilitation. The equine is either kept in the hospital for around the clock observation or is taken to a quarantine area until blood work comes back to confirm the equine is disease free. Then they go to an approved foster home for rehabilitation. When they are fully recovered, they are evaluated to determine their level of training. They are then put up for adoption. Once adopted, in the event the adopter can no longer care for the equine, he comes back to PER to be placed up for adoption again. We also do lifetime follow up on all equines, to ensure that they are never abused or neglected again. |
